Two beacons of light in Cleveland!

Later on today here in Cleveland...Danny and I rode along with his mom and sister to downtown Cleveland-the heart of this great and interesting city. We went to a huge Farmer's Market and toured the area to explore a little history of the city. It is full of brick building and big beautiful churches. European culture and the Catholic religion is very strong here. I observed this great city--ancient, mysterious and at the same time, haunted with a lot of crime and poverty. On the drive home, I saw two LDS missionaries walking along the bridge, freezing in the cold. It touched me. Their bravery, willingness to serve the Lord, walk in the freezing cold! Their message of truth and hope, the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! They just seemed like two beacons of light in the dark where they are probably rejected most of the time. However, lucky and blessed are the souls who do listen to them, and feel the spirit. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is true!!!

Hi All--my Love's, my relatives, my flamly!
Well, I just sat down with my husband's family and Dedi, his Grandpa.
Dedi came over with fresh italian bread, roasted pork (eehhh), and smoked Keilbasa (some kind of heavy sausage) and garlic salad. We sit and visit for hours until the next heavy meal of pork stuffed cabbage, pumpkin-cheese stuffed stroodle (breaded and fried), potatoes, corn, more white breads and cheese-dumpling soups...Endless ham, roast-beef, more gravy's, "chicken paprikash",...eehh, folowed by several jelly and fruit-stuffed pastries and cookies, teas and coffes everywhere--Danny and I are the only ones who love water and drink water like fishes!!!! : )
Food paradise, right?? NOPE. I need my brown-rice and tofu soon or I'm going to die!! j/k! I appreciate all the homemade hard-work! (Grumpa, you would probably really appreciate all the smoked meats, etc!!!) However, my body is designed for a very low-meat diet-and I can't digest food here so well! Too bad, eh? I gotta eat the meat though, because the women( all from Serbia or Croatia) are offended if you don't eat it, and they watch you while you eat!!

Gr/Gr: Stephanie, daughter of Aunt Kathy (cousin to our kids) teaches Relief Society in her Holladay Ward. Last Sunday was particularly difficult because she had gone through a rough week--the passing of her biological Dad, Karl, preparing for Christmas, etc.
Her lesson was taken from one of the conference talks, and as she prepared, she found a quote by Napoleon Bonaparte (concerning Christianity) that was very fitting and planned to weave it into her lesson. As she was giving the lesson, she delivered the quote, then stated that it was given by Napoleon Dynamite. Not until the sisters in the room burst into laughter did she realize what she had said! Poor Steph.

Sara, hurry back to our blog, we know you've been gone back east, but we're missing all your cute and clever little inputs. (Jayne can't do it all, but she sure tries). Hey everyone, thanks for coming to the party Thursday night. It was a lot of fun and we're glad you could make the trip. We know that was quite a distance, and even at night, for Grandma & Grandpa. Thank you so much for making the effort. Sydnie is still talking about it. She's wondering when Easter is and if we can have another party then. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year everyone. We're going on a cruise!!! Daddylayne decided that for some reason (good prices) he needed to take his family on a cruise. So we're leaving on january 7th for a week in the caribbean! Ok gramma, funny book entry:

Hey everyone,
The Christmas party on the 21st is really for having a nice Christmas get together-- kind of like the Christensen's used to do. The football game just happens to be on the same night as the best night for a Christmas party. Hope you all can make it, let's celebrate the birth of our Savior, family, health and much more!

Steinagel Cabin in January!

Just a reminder to all the Slade clan that whoever wants to come up to our cabin (east of Heber) in January is welcome. Just let us know--the dates are January 12th thru the 15th and we could even go up Thurs. the 11th after school if you want. We just realized we have Stake Conf. that weekend, so Lane and I will have to leave Sat. afternoon and come back Sunday around 1 or 2 p.m., but there is a chapel at the bottom of the canyon for those who would like to be good, and come down for Sac. Mtg. on Sunday (about 20 min. from Cabin--don't forget Sunday clothes).

It would be fun to rent a snowmobile or 4-wheelers too, so if anyone wants to do that, let us know, and we could work it out. The snow will be great by then--deep! I will be sending out maps to those who are planning to come, so let me know. You do need a 4-wheeler to get up there, but if you don't have one, we could park your car at the bottom of the canyon and drive you up. You can call the cabin, but can't call out from the cabin unless you have a phone card. Cells don't usually work up there. Also, no computer access.

There are 5 bedrooms & 3 1/2 bathrooms (3 levels): 4 queens, 1 king (in the master--mom and dad get that room if they come, unless they want a quiet bedroom upstairs--t.v. up there too), a set of bunkbeds in one of the bedrooms, and a portable playpen. Also two big comfy couches and 3 smaller sofas. Two fireplaces. The kids usually bring sleeping bags to sprawl out and watch the big t.v. at night (no satellite--just movies). There's also a pool table, toys, lots of board games, and cupboard essentials (like spices, flour, sugar, etc), all kitchen utencils, pans, etc., are already up there. There are lots of towels and blankets provided. Kids could bring musical instruments, electronic games, movies, etc. We'll have to work out meals--it would be nice if each family could take a dinner or lunch or something. Wish the Calif. kids could come too!

Thanks for the Birthday wishes. Guess what my very sweet husband and family did. I was at Bunko (Paul was supposed to be at the church for tithing settlement) when the doorbell rang & there sat a cute cake which read "Happy Birthday Mom" with lit candles on it. I couldn't see anybody, but I could hear Coleman laughing out in the bushes. Isn't my family the very cutest ever??

This is Sara here and I'm ready to tie my husband to the car and drive to Utah! I think we should move there. When I look out the window here in Sacramento-I see drug-dealers down the street...And when my young sweet cousin Jayne looks out her windows, she sees endless Chrismas-pine trees and snow. Hmmmm. I need a change of scenery...I gotta go, I hear sirens down the street. Gotta go check it out. Never a dull moment....uhg

Gr N, Question for all you brains: (referring to the last blog,)Dorthy was a very hard working person... kept cows, raised & harvested grain, planted and maintained a large garden, canned everything, picked fruit and vegetables, tended grandchildren, massaged, sewed and quilted, etc., etc., etc. and was really into Emergency and Preparedness.

When I told Grumpa about her passing, he said, "she probably worked herself to death."

Question of the day: Do you think a person can work himself (or herself) to death?

Loss of a Friend

Gr: Jo-jo and I lost a friend this past week....our massage lady, Dorthy, passed away. They have no idea what caused her death, just "natural causes"....she was 71. When I started going to her for massages (3 1/2 years ago) she got my lymphatic system running. I was having difficulty walking without some pain in my right leg. She was a "farm lady" and those milk-the-cow hands could really dig in. She was a Registered Nurse and Certified Massage Therapist.
We often talked during the massage and therefore got quite well acquainted. One time we discussed how we would both like to pass away......just go to sleep some night and awaken in the next world, and that's just what she did. Love, Gr Nette

Our Thanks Giving...

SladesnewsHi everyone! Not that we are interesting yet as a little married couple, but we had Thanks Giving, sadly, away from all of you. However we were well-fed. Tommy, myself and (hubby) went to our biological father's house and had good food and were content. My Grandma on my Dad's side was there and it wass good to see her and all went O.K.--especially once Tom and I stirred up controversary at the tablend created our own bubble of endless chatter...: ) It's so fun! I wish we could have split our time and been in Utah also! No one at that particular table could hear very well, so Tom and I stuffed our faces and talked at rapid speed...ahhh, good TIMES! My poor husband Danny sat quietly and ate his food dutifully. He had a bad cold, poor guy. Now he's well and it's my turn! Well that's my boring statement for now!!! I LOVE ALL OF YOU!!

Christmas Fact

According to the Alaska Department of fish and game, both Male and Female Reindeer grow antlers. The Male's lose their antlers between November and early December, while the females retain theirs until after they give birth in the spring. Judging by all of the artwork depicting Santa and his Sleigh, we must assume that all of his reindeer are female, from Rudolph to Blitzen, which only makes sense. Only women could drag a fat old man in a red suit all the way around the world and never get lost.
