Little Pioneer Children

Upon Mother's request, here are the pictures of the kids at our Pioneer Day Celebration. It was a scorcher, but Lily happily skipped and sang through the parade, while Max was preoccupied by the bouncers and slides. I guess this is the same dress I wore around her age at the Mormon Center on Pioneer Day (thanks for sending it, Mom!). We all had fun despite the heat and enjoyed food, friends, and snow cones (in the last photo, Max is giving Lily a "taster" of his snow cone).

Speaking of the Mormon Center, the new temple there is about to open! My father in law, Ron, is in charge of security for the Open House, and Connie is organizing the food and refreshments, as well as being a tour guide. They have been very busy and are very excited, but last week Ron had a crash on his bike and fell and now has a fractured pelvis. He's home after a couple of days in the hospital, and now he's conducting the security meetings at his house and over the phone. Keep him in your prayers! I guess he'll need some physical therapy. Anyway, we're enjoying our summer and trying to decide when to come up to visit. Love you all!

Does the singing guy on the right look familiar? For those of you who didn't get my email, the first weekend of "Broadway through the Decades" is done and we had a great turnout at Sierra College. The show features songs from every decade of the twentieth century. It's fantastic. Here is me, as Maurice Gibbs, singing with the other Bee Gees in "How Deep is Your Love."

Just seeing if this really works. Jesse has been trying all day to figure this out. Congrats to Sara & Daniel (did you get the gift Paul brought to Cali several weeks ago?) Addison & Ana's wedding was really nice, the Bishop that married them did a wonderful job! Well, Jesse, Nickolas, Sydnie, Coleman plus 3 neighbor kids & my sister and her family are off to Cherry Hill tomorrow, so off to bed I go. Oh, as some of you know, we are having a Labor Day BBQ here at our house on Saturday. Hope everyone can make it. Christensen's, do you have plans for that weekend?
love you all!

From Grumpa and Grandma: Hi all, well, Addison and Ana are now hitched....on their honeymoon in St. George (where it is only 113 degrees right now). It was a nice ceremony. The bishop counseled Addison to make sure he schedules prayer every day, then he counseled Ana to make sure that Addison does that. The bridesmaids (MacKenzie was one) looked nice in their coral color dresses and all the guys (including Slade) looked very handsome in their tuxedos. You can see pictures on www.collages.net, user name: Ana and Addison, password: 11377.

It was good to see you, Taylor (at the wedding recep) and know that the Tongan Gangster guy didn't totally mess you up for good. Are you alone right now (Mom-Jamie in Italy and
Dad-Austin at Scout Camp?) 'Course we know you'll be good because after being totally righteous in Wyoming you have to.

Hanna, it was exciting to read your blog post. We're proud of you. And Sara too....(did you get all that Jayne wrote on the comment? I didn't). And Morgs, too, we need to figure out how to get past the "parental control" so you can blog on the main part. ('course maybe your folks don't want you to read things that Cami says)

Your comics are a riot, Mac. We have to have someone explain them to us, but after that we really get a laugh. We will miss your blogs while you're in Italy.
Was sweet of you, Joe or Jake or Mel, to wish Austin a H.B.
We forgot to call him and sing to him on his day. Can you imagine how unhappy he must be? har de har

Beth, you need to put that cute picture of your pioneer kids on the blog!

Love all you sweet goofy kids and grkids, Mom & Dad,
Gr & Gr

Hey all, just so you know, I'm planning on starting a comic strip about life here, and Sam will probably be contributing too, so it should be fun. I'll be posting it on here, so get ready! Meanwhile, you can all check out my old one, The Capybara! Yay!

I'm Back!

Hi family! I just got back from the Trek, and it was totally righteous. I pulled the whole time and it was really spiritual. And when we went to Martin's cove, I didn't realize we were there. I totally missed it. it was wierd. Then last night this big ol' tongan gangsta kid wanted to box and noone would fight him so i stepped up. Then he started wrapping his hands in bandannas and I was like Whoa! and realized noone brought gloves. We went at it mulisha style, that means bare fisted, no gloves yo. I did way good until he caught me in the nose way hard and I couldn't see and started bleeding everywhere. I didn't get KOd but that was pretty much the end of the fight for me. it was a good 10 minutes though. Call me Taylor "Mike Tyson" Slade. We are gonna rematch with gloves sometime next week so updates are in order.
Our ramp is under construction now. we are getting wheels slapped on it so we can pull it like a trailer. sweet.
I can't really think of anything else to tell yall about right now, but when I do you will hear about it fo sho. toodles!

Sladesnews

Sladesnews Hi from Gr & Gr: A couple of progeny have said they can't figure how to blog yet. They can go into the "comments" but not the regular main blog. So.... this is what you do, Sara & Morgs: Get into the regular blog (sladefam.blogspot.com), then at the top (middle) there's a little "BlogThis!" Click, then a window comes up asking for UserName: sladesnews. Then Password: sep1955. And shizzam.......there's the window to publish post!

Glad you have a knowledgeable (knowledgable?)...smart friend, Mac, who knows about the Exploratorium. What a fun place to go for young or old!

So sad.....we won't get any dirt bike news this week, Slamiejade and Tay are both trekking in Wyoming. They have the true handcart pioneer spirit. Then Jamie has a one-day rest before she leaves with her Mom for Italy! Can't wait to hear those stories.

Thanks for the description of your 4th of July, Beth & PK. We missed you and truly wished you could be here, but understand. We had quite a time with everyone coming and going here, it got so we didn't know who was here half the time...but it was fun. (Paul & Kari coming with kids and bringing Austin, Jamie and Taylor coming for a while, Jenne & 3 boys, Bryan for a couple nights, etc. Emmy Jayne and Coleman had fun playing together. Sydnie and Slade got along very well together, etc.) At the end when it was time for the fireworks at the park, it was raining and thundering and we (gr & gr) said, "they won't have fireworks tonight." But everyone else was determined and they went, and had a blast. There were firewords after all. Oh well, we were bushed anyway (old).

It was wierd to not have the Christensens around, well, we did have Jayleb and Emmy and Chuck and Tess and Tank. Thanks for your input, Camel.

Kari mentioned that we could maybe go to their house the Saturday before Labor Day (????)

Love y'all........I'll try to post a picture from the little Liberty parade wherein Grumpa rode his decorated ATV full of little kids throwing candy all over. Gr

Trip Revisited

Hey Flam--OK, so we didn't make it to Utah. Here's the scoop: Friday we packed up and I cleaned the house like a crazy woman to leave it spotless for Paul's brother Blair, Rebecca, and Lindsey, who were coming on Saturday. By 2:00 pm we were in the car, buckled up, prayer said, and as we were pulling out of the garage, Max said, "Mom, I've got a bad feeling about this." Hmmm. "Well, let's pick up a sandwich and Dad, 'cuz we're going to Utah!" was my response. We did just that, and after 50 miles in almost 3 hours, we figured we better pull off and see if the traffic was going to clear up after a while. We stopped and played at an outdoor crazy mall in Rancho Cucamonga, then had dinner, then got back on I-15 around 8:00 pm, and there was absolutely no movement of cars. Then we all confessed to each other about the wierd feelings we'd had about going, so at 9:00 pm we turned around and went home. We were all in bed at 10:00 pm, saying we'd check the freeway situation in the morning. So by morning, Lily woke up sick and throwing up (and the freeway was still jammed--some fire or something had closed it down). She may have had food poisoning or the flu, we don't know, but she "lost it" about 6 times in 4 hours, then fell asleep after 12:00 noon. When she woke up at 4:00 she said, "I feel better!" And she was. So we unpacked, I went grocery shopping, Paul ran to Home Depot to buy a barbeque, then we welcomed our guests that evening. We WILL plan another trip, because both Max and Lily (and Paul and I too, of course) cried when they realized they weren't going to see their Utah cousins. What else is going on up there? When should we come? We really have no schedule, so we can come anytime! So here are a couple of pictures from our 4th of July festivities. We went to the waterpark, the beach, took Blair and Rebecca out to a fancy restaurant for Blair's birthday. . . Lily danced up a storm with her glow necklace at the park last night. Oh, and I think I broke my toe yesterday doing an inflatable obstacle course with Max at the park. Ow. Anyway, we love and miss you all! This blog (and the commentaries) absolutely crack me up!
