Divine Proportion

Sladesnews

Gr: I think it's time we install some "intelligentsia" type thinking into this blog......you know, like Tommy does--so our brains don't shrivel with nonsense. (Taylor-rap, etc.)

Have you ever heard of the Divine Proportion or Golden Ratio? (article in the Smithsonion magazine alerted me to it)
It's a special bit of geometry (Sam probably knows all about it) and is a line that is divided into 2 unequal lengths, and the ratio of the longer segment to the shorter segment is the same as the ratio of the whole line to the longer segment. Expressed as a number, the ratio is 1.618. Philosophers and scientists say it embodies a harmony found in nature and in art. In a nautilus shell, the ratio of the first spiral to the next is 1.618. In the Mona Lisa painting the relationship between her right shoulder and cheek and left shoulder and cheek is a triangle whose shortest sides are in DIVINE PROPORTION to its base. Pyramids, Rembrandt's self portraits, Leonardo DaVinci's notebooks, the Double Helix, all contain evidences of the Divine Proportion or Golden Ratio.

Is that fascinating or what? Have you studied this in your art classes, Mel, Jen, Mackenzie, Tess, Jayne, etc? I've just never heard of it, and it opened a tiny piece of my brain to something new. For further study, see the book Math and the Mona Lisa: Art & Science of DaVinci by Atalay. Love, Gr

Saturday

Well folks, today is Saturday. In my past life i have never really come to fully appreciate the meaning of saturday, but in the past couple weeks it has been amazing. Being home-schooled basiclly my whole life, I never really understood what a simple saturday could mean to someone. Well, this morning I was able to sleep in for the first time in 6 days. Going to work, going to school, and going to work some more can really get to ya, espeacialy in the morning hours. So.... having absolutly no alarm this morning felt like i was being exalted in a way.
Hey, i was just noticing how some of you were commenting on a past blog entry about me and being VL. well folks, i have a public announcement. I AM STILL VL. i have never come close to kissing someone, so dont even think about it. Caleb and i have a bet going about this subject. if i make it till i'm 18 without getting kissed, he owes me $50. however, if i get kissed, i owe HIM the $50. seeing as i'm completely broke these days and i cant spare $50 dollars over some lameo kiss, i take extream precausion in these things. not that i need to or anything, but you can never be too sure... hahah just kiddin. ok, enough of that, all you guys have a lovely saturday, and i'll see ya on THANKSGIVING!!! oh... actually... i think i'm going skiing on thanksgiving... its snowbasin's opening day.. cant miss that. ciao!

New Family Night Tradition

Sydney and Cami were sitting in the parlor, and Cami asked Syd when she trimmed her toenails, and Syd said" We always trim our toenails for family night!" :)

MORE CONFUSION FROM JO

CJ has earned his Eagle and we need to hold his Court of Honor. What are your feelings about including this activity during the Big Weekend?

More Confusion from Jo

1. Mom and Dad and I are still debating about where 'dinner' will be eaten.

2. The bed I call dibs on is the one with the thick blue plaid flannel sheets and down comforter in MY room in My house!

3. Everybody else can fight over beds when they get to The Valley. (First come, first serve.)

IT'S GONNA BE GREAT

OK, I'm trying this. I do read this blog and enjoy it much, but I'm a bit psychotic when it comes to learning new computer things.

Shall we start getting organized for Thanksgiving? I gotta know how many tables to round up (and chairs). And beds. I have 6 extra sleeping spots in my house. Tess has lots of floor space and a queen size foam pad. Jayne has a double bed in Emmy's room. And you all know what the deal is at Gr. Nette's. I call 'dibs' on my own bed. :) Ya'll gotta come see my new red wall! I am getting so with it. (Thanks to my artsy, decorator daughters.)

(Sam) It appears that maybe Gr did not put this poem on the blog, who then?

Written on a warm, humid, dusty night. (with a slight chance of thundershowers)

The poem didn't know it,
But I took his brush and paper.
And before his face could show it,
I said, "see you later."
Now you know and you can see,
As clear and bright as the sun,
Why the poem is in search of me,
And like Tigger, I am the only one!

Another day, another dollar.
If lady destiny had a number, I'd call her.
This is sometimes howI feel,
in hopes of a knowledge that I might seal,
A peace of mind, so that my mind would be still.

Then a soft and quiet sound,
lifts my spirit up off the ground.
I hear a whisper so warm and soft,
and with familiar peace and joy.
I remember what I forget so oft.
That feeling of being a little boy,
wrapped in a loving Father's arms,
with serene peace and no sense of alarm.

So when we feel so weak and low,
climb down upon our knees,
and without a doubt we will know,
that upon lifes troubled seas,
Our fathers love will never fail,
To lift us up, and thin the veil.
And we will see, who we are meant to be.

Hey guys, a friend of mine shared this with me, and I thought I would pass it on. It's kind of a game, but there isn't really any goal to it. It's as close to Harold and the Purple Crayon that I've ever seen, so try it out, and have some fun! Line Rider. (When you get there, it's in another language or something, but there's a play button. Just click that!)

To my lovely sister Sara....

Well, I guess it would be nice if I would blogg more,
even while working at the Franklin Covey store.
I might have a smidgen of time,
to undo this horrible crime,
of my lack of writing to loved ones,
To share a few thoughts before my mind runs,
To my 1 millionth thought of everything under the sun.

They say that girls like guys with "skills",
Not crazy men who want nothing but thrills,
So I won't fight anymore beasts or midnight creatures,
And no more guns and weapons with extra "special" features.
I will ride a white horse and wear shiny armor,
All my skills will be used to charm "her"
Yes, the lady fair,
Of whom I deeply care.

On a similar note, to the unjust,
Run and hide if you must,
Because Helaman's Army still rides,
To battle, defend, and change the tides,
And Right will conquer wrong,
with all the glorious song,
With Faith, Hope, and Charity
That has been our motto a along.

Well, now that my weird poem experience is done, I just thought I would mention that I think I just saw a 'big rig' stroller. A couple just walked by the store, and the stroller had 16 wheels!!!! I raised my arm and pulled the imaginary horn, but no sound but crying babies! I love you all!! Can't wait to see you in November!!!

P.S. Grandma, is it alright if Mark, my roommate came out to Utah with us????
